Big Screen Broadcast for King’s Coronation at Times Square, Newcastle
Newcastle is buzzing with anticipation as the city prepares for the coronation of King Charles III. From street parties to community events, residents will have plenty of opportunities to celebrate this historic event together. Newcastle is gearing up for a weekend filled with excitement as the city comes together to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III. The festivities include live broadcasts of the coronation and the following day’s Coronation Concert, street parties, community events, and more!
On Saturday May 6th, from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm, residents can watch the coronation ceremony broadcast live at Times Square. The service at Westminster Abbey will begin at 11 am after the royal procession from Buckingham Palace. Following the ceremony, King Charles will return to the palace and join other senior members of the royal family on the balcony.
The fun doesn’t stop there! On Sunday, join the free live broadcast of the Coronation Concert at Windsor Castle from 8:00 pm at Times Square. Big names like Katy Perry, Take That, and Lionel Richie will perform, along with community choirs and singers from across the UK.
As part of the coronation celebrations, neighborhoods across Newcastle will adorn their streets with colorful bunting and host street parties. Iconic landmarks, such as the Civic Centre and the Tyne Bridge, will be illuminated in red, white, and blue.
Newcastle City Council’s Meals at Home service will provide residents with sweet treats, while libraries will host coffee mornings and children’s craft sessions. The coronation will also be broadcast at City and Fenham libraries.
Schools have joined in the excitement, offering coronation-themed menus leading up to the bank holiday weekend.
Michelle Percy, Director of Place at Newcastle City Council, expressed the city’s enthusiasm for the event: “The King’s coronation promises to be a truly historic event… We are absolutely delighted to be broadcasting the coronation ceremony in Times Square, alongside lots of other exciting events which are being held across the city.”
